Watch Digital Satellite TV On PC

More TV viewers watch digital satellite TV on PC nowadays as compared to a year ago. Estimates show that the increase is more than 20%. Viewers are more selective in terms of TV entertainment today since there are better options than analog and cable available to them. Let us take a look at how we can also watch digital satellite TV on PC, a popular choice of many people worldwide.

What are the ways to watch digital satellite TV?

There are 2 common ways to do so. On top of satellite television, you can also listen to digital radio on your PC.

Watch Digital Satellite TV with PC Television Cards

One way is to use a PCTV card like WinTV-NEXUS. With such a card, you can get digital television as well as radio on your PC with clear picture and audio quality. With these cards, you can access to over 200 to 300 satellite channels. These are added monthly as we speak.

Some cards also allow you to record your digital shows to the hard drive. You may also find some cards with integrated scheduler for recording. But these cards can easily cost you more than $200 to 300. So if you are on a tight budget, do reconsider as there is a more viable and affordable option in the form of PC satellite TV software.

Make sure you check the system requirements of the PCTV card if you are buying. Generally, you need at least a Pentium II CPU with minimum 733MHz and your computer has to run on one of these OS, Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP. Make sure you have a spare PCI slot on your motherboard, a sound card, CD ROM drive for driver installation, minimum of 1G space if you want to do recording, a compatible PCI/AGP graphics card and digital satellite antenna.

Watch Digital Satellite TV with PC Software

PC satellite software has rocked the TV entertainment world and changed its face forever. If you think that PCTV cards are a marvel, then the software is far more awesome. Basically, once you download the software from the retailers, you just need to run the installation and it is ready to go. You can watch from more than 2000 to 3000 satellite television stations worldwide all from your computer using the software. This brings the number of available programs to at least 10 times that of PCTV cards.

And all these benefits for the price of lesser than $50. This is the reason why people are going for the software when they want to watch digital satellite TV on PC.

One grumble most viewers have is their small monitor screen. This is no fault of the software or card. But there is a way to get around this. You can always attach a video cable from your PC to the television set in order to broadcast the television programs.

Let Satellite TV Help Your Business

If you are looking to set up television service in your business, look no further than satellite. If you weren’t planning on placing a TV in your business, you should take a look at the benefits it could provide. Satellite TV offers hundreds of channels – much more than cable – and lots of different packages for you to choose from.

Let’s say that you own a Christian book store. Did you know that satellite offers more than 10 different Christian networks? You could go a whole work month and only watch the same channel twice. Sure, you could just play inspirational music in your store, but nothing can beat the programs these channels have to offer – devotionals, worship services, documentary series, etc. Or let’s say that you own a sporting goods store. Have you ever been into Dick’s Sporting Goods and seen how many different TVs have different games on? You could have the same in your store, even if you only have one TV set-up. With satellite TV, you won’t miss a game with the multiple ESPN and FSN channels that cover all regions of the U.S., along with multiple specialty channels.

Perhaps the best example of a business that benefits from a satellite setup is a sports bar. Sometimes it’s hard to catch the home team’s away games on regular television. Not to mention that, depending on the size of your area, there could be lots of home teams’ games to catch. For example, the New York metro area has about two teams in every major league, with three in the NHL. You will also have college football and basketball fanatics that will request to see games from their alma maters all over the country. With the NCAA tournament around the corner, it’s probably a good idea to invest in the Mega March Madness package – or something similar – that offers nearly all the games that your local CBS affiliate chooses not to show. And during NFL season, you’ve got to have the NFL Sunday Ticket, which shows over 14 games every single Sunday of the season.

If you’re still not sold on satellite, there is another great advantage for businesses that might entice you. XM Satellite Radio channels also come with your satellite package. There are channels that will fit your work environment, no matter what kind of business you own. For a peaceful office setting, try any of the following. XM: The Blend offers a smooth mix of the last 30 years of pop music. XM: The Bridge plays soft classic rock. XM: The Pulse is similar to The Blend, but focuses on the 90s and today. XM: The Spectrum offers mellow adult alternative music. XM: Watercolors plays smooth, relaxing jazz. Then, there are all the channels that specialize in decades. Some businesses may even find a channel that was made especially with them in mind, such as XM: Spa.

As you can see, there are multiple advantages to having satellite internet installed at your business. Whether you’ve got a TV channel or the smooth tunes of an XM channel in the background, satellite is one of the best business expenses that you’ll ever make.

Cable TV

It is time to choose a new cable TV service provider. Your love affair with your cable provider has grown cold. Maybe your cable company has grown and its commitment to customer service has plummeted, as its customer base has expanded. You’re ready to switch providers but are confused as to how to select the best provider. Every year cable providers fight to convince their customers that their companies are the best in the midst of fierce competition. All you need to do is turn on the television to be bombarded with cable TV commercials. How do you make up your mind?

When searching for a new cable provider, there are certain factors that need to be taken into account. One factor is the quality of the customer service. It is vitally important that the service provider is available to provide technical and account support. One of my favorite cable providers is Charter Cable — mostly because it provides friendly and efficient customer service via email, online chat and phone. If a service provider has bad customer service, I don’t pay it my hard-earned dollars.

The second and third criteria go hand-in-hand. They are pricing and “bang for the buck.” In other words, how much programming is being offered for the price? Are there cheaper options? Most companies offer basic cable and expanded cable. Expanded cable has premium channels in addition to the basic channels. Digital cable provides better picture quality as well as on-demand programming. If you find yourself barely watching television because you love to spend time surfing the Internet, it doesn’t make much sense to get more than a basic package. Whether basic or expanded, every package should have enough programming to satisfy you, the customer.

Most reputable Cable Companies offer affordable basic, expanded and digital cable service packages that satisfy both the tech geek and the no-frills customer.

The last factor that should be considered is service reliability. How do you research reliability? You can ask your friends and family about their experiences with their cable providers. Ask them how consistent service is. The TV screen shouldn’t go blank at the first hint of a thunderstorm. All channels should be clear with no static. Good customer service and amazingly low prices are important but they quickly become irrelevant when service reliability is an issue.

If you’re truly ready to switch cable providers, consider all of the above factors. And be sure to choose a cable provider that offers the complete package: Reliability, “bang for the buck” at affordable prices, and exceptional customer service.

Direct TV Tivo Equals Compromise

Do you own your own satellite TV system and subscribe to Directv (aka Direct TV)? Then consider an upgrade to a Directv Tivo system. Tivo is a type of digital video recorder that allows you to record one thing while watching another. So ladies, if your man wants to watch the game at the same time that your favorite television show is on, you can have your show recorded while he watches the game. Or make him suffer by taping the game.

When you have a Direct satellite TV, you have a lot of options to choose from, including the Direct TV Tivo. Like mentioned above, the Directv Tivo records one show while you watch another. Well, other digital recording devices do that too and have for a while now. The Direct TV Tivo is a little special. You can actually record two different shows at the same time!

When a customer first gets their TV satellite dish through Directv, they turn down the Directv Tivo option. However, after a few months of realizing all of the cool shows they miss because of the plethora of programming choices through Direct TV, they decide to go the Tivo route after all. People tend to get attached to certain TV shows and when they start to conflict, agony pursues on deciding which show to watch!

Your Direct TV Tivo is also easy to set up and program. You just bring up your Directv programming guide on your TV screen and choose the TV shows you want to record. And voilá! You will soon have a digital recording of your favorite shows. The neat thing about this Tivo is that you can program your set to record an entire season of shows! There are no more worries about trying to remember to set your Direct TV Tivo each week.

Another advantage to the Tivo is that, unlike a VCR, you are not fumbling with the buttons trying to set the time and date. You also don’t have to worry about recording gray static or whether the VCR tape gets stuck in the machine. Then there’s that pesky double checking to make sure you have the television on the correct channel as well as the VCR being set properly too.

Direct TV’s competitor the Dish network has digital video recorders available but they can only tape one show, unlike the Directv Tivo option. So if you do not have a TV satellite dish and satellite TV receiver yet, think about the Tivo option before deciding on the satellite TV service you want to go for. Directv Tivo may be just the ticket to make your decision.

Kids want to watch one thing while mom and dad also disagree on what to watch. Direct TV Tivo equals compromise in many households. You might say that it makes a great peacekeeper. Now all you have to do is decide on who gets to hold the remote control!

The End of TV

In the not-so-distant future TV as we know it, will cease to exist. This is going to have huge ramifications on the whole of human society, or at least the so-called ‘wealthy’ countries that sit in front of the ‘magic-story-box’ religiously everyday. I say ‘so-called’ because we obviously measure wealth in terms of material gain and not internal peace or gratitude for life. When television first appeared, like the telephone (see last article on the changing world of voice-communication: ‘Internet nerds are actually secret prophets who change the way our world works. Check out Skype, a type of future communication technology.’) TV was an incredible addition to our collective reality. However, we are in the ‘Information Age’ and this means that the ways we do things as a species are changing faster than you can say, “Humans humorously hunt for humble hints at how to have more happiness.”

The coming of the Internet spells the end of the television era, and this could also mean the end of years of walking around with mindless advertising jingles in your head. The other day when I was washing the dishes I absent-mindedly started to sing the slogan from one of my local TV channels, “Bringing it home to you.” If these silly songs are what they bring home to me, I am going to quite happy when they’re gone. Thankfully, as TV shows are already putting episodes on-line these hard-core advertising techniques may soon disappear altogether. TV on the Internet means many things for the viewer. As the show is coming straight to you instead of through the old channel medium, you can have more control of the show, with elements of video, like pause and rewind coming into play. Watching a show straight through without commercials sounds like a godsend indeed. TV websites will still need corporate sponsorship for promotion elsewhere, so the concept of ‘product placement’ that has already come into play will most probably evolve further, especially in the case of International companies whose products are available universally. Hopefully these ‘placements’ don’t go too far from reality thus taking us metaphorically back to times of ‘canned’ laughter and obviously contrived dialogue.

I can just imagine Homer on the ‘Simpsons’ suddenly changing the beer he drinks from ‘Duff’ to Budweiser because it ‘tastes great and is less filling.’ As if he ever cared whether his doughnuts came from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Doughnuts, or cared about his weight for that matter! So of course with all changes in life come both sides of the coin of positive and negative outcomes. Still, having TV integrated as another of the infinite capabilities of your personal computer makes life more simple, not to mention that the quality of the broadcast will be equal to the latest in digital technology.

Someone will have to figure out what to do in the case of a person wanting to watch an American show when living in England or another foreign country. Your Internet Service Provider may choose to integrate local advertisements into the TV program, as the American commercials won’t be relevant to the viewer overseas. TV-On-Demand (paying for individual shows) may also become one of the main viewing options.

The main bonus in having television on the Internet is the idea that we will have more control over our lives. Instead of having to watch a show at a designated time that your channel decides, you will now be able to watch what you want, when you want it. No more missing shows, having to tape episodes, or worrying about your kids seeing something that you feel isn’t suitable. The watcher becomes the ultimate controller of viewing reality, so theoretically life becomes easier. I won’t dispute this fact but I will always be a firm believer that life truly improves when we improve our attitudes towards it. I also feel that what we produce presently on television needs to start evolving as much as the technology that provides it. Violence, crime, murder and death on the News and primetime are getting as old as my underwear. I won’t mention in what year they were purchased.

Just because there will be less channels to choose from doesn’t mean there will be less to watch. On the contrary, there will probably be more and more shows and the chance for you to put your own show out there on a web site means much more variety. Broadcasters may keep producing groups of shows on websites, but there will surely be much more competition from producers who work on their own.

Satellite TV – ExpressVu Vs Star Choice

I have been working in the Satellite business for the last 10 years. I don’t assume I know everything, but I know quite a bit about Satellite TV. Even until this date, I still get asked, what is the difference between Express Vu and Star Choice Satellite systems in Canada.

Believe or not, both companies offer about the same channels. In fact, over 95% of the channels are the same. Also, their prices are quite competitive in the Canadian market. So, if that’s the case, what makes a person choosing one satellite company from the other one? The answer is very simple: Features and Gadgets.

Let me put it this way, if you are person who loves simplicity & easy to use, Star Choice is the best choice for you. However, if you’re a person who loves the latest in technology with lots of features. Express Vu is your choice.

I will buy a Star Choice system if you are not much technology inclined. Star Choice is very simple to use. In fact, it doesn’t offer that many features in terms of recording, searching shows and things like that. In otherwords, if you are happy just to turn the receiver on and flip channels, That’s what Star Choice is all about it.

Now, if you are like me who loves the latest toys and gadgets, ExpressVu is your choice. Bell Express gives you four features not found in Star Choice. First, all receivers have a VCR recording capability. What this means, it allows you to record ANY show ANY time by using a VCR. Best of all, you don’t need to program your VCR. All you need is to have a tape in it, the satellite receiver will do the rest. Second, you get access to a 5 days weather forecast. You can check how’s the weather in your area in matter of seconds. Third, you have a search show capability. If you don’t know what time and in what channel your favorite show will be on, all you do is type the show name. Subsquently, Express Vu, will give you time, day and channel where the show is playing. Last and not least, ALL receivers have an optical connection. It allows you enjoy dolby digital sound in ANY movie broadcasting it.

In summary, you are the one who makes the decision. If you are looking for simplicity, Star Choice is the one to go. But, if you are looking for cutting edge features, Bell Express Vu is a MUST. Both companies are great in terms and digital picture and sound. The choice is ALL yours!!!

An Explanation of the CEA Antenna Codes

Consumers were once considered to be unaware about their antenna needs. With consumer’s ability to use advanced technology and the Internet, consumers are better equipped to educate themselves. The mystery is gone. Broadcast and satellite information are readily available over the Internet.

The CEA stands for the Consumer Electronic Association. The CEA drives consistency within the consumer electronics industry by setting certain standards between technology, new products and existing devices.

The CEA helps to bridge the gap between industry, retail and the consumer.

One of the CEA standards are antenna codes are used by the organization to identify certain requirements through codes and colors. By logging into the CEA website, users may access great information about local TV stations that are broadcasting in your area. The CEA website also provides other information about TV antennas, like which are applicable for each area.

CEA has divided the antenna codes into six colors based on six geographic zones. The zones identify the various types of the antennas optimal for reception in their region. The colors identify the broadcast conditions of a specific area for each tower. For instance, yellow is a Small Multi-Directional antenna, which is the smallest of all the TV antennas. Also, green is used to represent a Medium Multi-directional TV antenna. These antennas are slightly more powerful and stronger than Small Multi-Directional TV antennas. There are other zones; light green representing Large Multi-Directional TV Antennas, a red spot represents Medium Directional TV Antennas, a blue spot represents Medium Directional TV Antennas with a Pre-Amp and a violet spot represents Large Directional TV Antenna with a Pre-Amp.

If planning to install an antenna for HDTV, matching the antenna to the recommended CEA code and color is crucial As mentioned earlier, the CEA website is quite useful in this regard. Moreover, there are certain factors that restrict your choice of HDTV Antenna. Your location is the most important factor.

Consumer interest has steadily grown in recent years with the digital transition as well as the economic downturn. When it comes to purchasing an antenna, the consumer’s goal is to get the best antenna for the money. In recent years, the selection has grown and the choices are vast. I recommend that instead of relying on the marketers or the content providers as a guide, consumers should also make an effort to know more about antennas, their types, optimal antennas in their location and much more before making a purchase. The CEA website is useful in this regard. Furthermore, referrals also help in many cases. In order to get the best TV antenna, you can also seek the help of an experienced friend or a colleague to guide you.

Direct TV vs Dish Network

First category we’ll examine is pricing. Dish Network has a slight advantage for pricing but will offer slightly less channels in their tiered packaging. For local channels Dish Network charges an additional $5 a month, DirectTV charges $3 a month.

Now we’ll take a look at Sports Programming, one of the most purchased additional packages to satellite TV. Both Dish Network and DirectTV offer sports programming packages at an additional cost. If you’re an avid NFL fan, and want the Sunday Ticket, your only choice is DirectTV, as Dish Network DOES NOT offer the NFL Sunday Ticket. Dish Network does have the Multi-Sport Package which includes most of the FOX regional channels. While very comparable, Direct TV has a slight advantage over Dish Network because of the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Our last category is Equipment, specifically DVR. Both Dish Network and DirectTV offer DVR equipment for free when you order their premium packages, the difference is DirectTV uses Tivo for their DVR equipment. With DirectTV’s TIVO, you can watch one channel, while recording another. Dish Network’s DVR systems do offer more recording hours though. The advantage again goes to Direct TV, because with TIVO you can watch one channel, while recording another.

Now that you’ve seen the differences, what does it all mean? If you need NFL ticket, DirectTV should be your choice hands down. You should also select DirectTV if you want a nicer interface for the DVR equipment.

If you’re on a tight budget, you can save a little each month with Dish Network, as their packages run slightly cheaper per month.

Free Satellite TV On PC Software For Abundant Television Fun

Years back it would’ve been just your imagination that Technology would some day advance to a point where you can watch satellite TV programs on your PC or Laptop. Then a few years ago, two types of PCTV cards became available, one to be installed in your PC while the other was an external USB plug-in device. Now there is a new way to watch TV on your PC or Laptop without any hardware.

PCTV cards are hardware that allow users to access satellite signals on their PCs or Laptops. The sophisticated types of PCTV cards are capable of the dual functions for watching both satellite and terrestrial television programs simultaneously.

To be able to use a PCTV card, your PC must have a USB port and should not be less than Pentium II, with a functional CD Rom drive. A lot of other complicated connections will then follow, either via a dish, Internet cable, satellite signal decoder or a media player.

Satellite TV On PC Software

All these hassles of the PCTV cards have now been blown away by the arrival of Internet television software. You can purchase Internet television software online, download and install it in either your PC or Laptop, and in seconds be hooked up with thousands of satellite TV programs from around the world, irrespective of where you are, so long as you are connected to the internet.

Internet television software is even more beneficial, because you have no need for extra gear; all you need is a broadband internet connection for a life time of satellite television viewing from thousands of TV stations around the world.

Note: As with every innovation, the rush has since begun for both manufacturers and consumers, be sure to purchase a popular Internet television software, because if it is popular, that means that it works without bugs.
